Suriname has one of the largest forest in the world. Ninety percent of the country is covered by forest and the greatest part is rainforest. Deforestation because of horticulture is only 0,1 percent per year. There are approximately five hundred species of trees, with more than sixty excellent for the commercial market.

Suriname has over 15 million hectare forest, with 4 million hectare good to fell (1 hectare equals 2.461 acres).  The rules that apply are 25 kb spar in a cycle of 20 years per hectare. In this way there are never radical changes in the forest. On top of this there are never tropical storms in Suriname, which is amazing because 600 kilometre away there are tropical storms every year. It’s clear that Woodpartner chooses for durable forest management instead of complete exploitation of the forest.

Durable forest management is also verified by the common forest management system in Suriname which is much better than FSC regulation all over the world. It’s allowed to fell 25 kb spar on one hectare. A minimum which isn’t common anywhere else in the world. This in accordance with the Celos management system. This 25 kb is necessary to give the young trees a chance to grow. You also get 1000 cuttings back for one felled tree.

In all the contracts it’s common that the Celos management system is applicable. In the sixties and seventies Celos was part of the agricultural university of Wageningen (Netherlands), in cooperation with the Suriname university. So this system was developed by the professors agriculture N. de Graaf en J. Hendrison.

At Woodpartner you get the highest quality of tropical spar and the necessary end product, with the possibility of transport all over the world. If requested end products (like non skid) can also be manufactured in a state of the art sawing mill.
